Hi everyone, this is my first post, and my first Mercedes I have bought.
Stupidly, or naively, I bought a C220 nearing its MOT expiry at a real bargain.
The car has 67,000.
However, the MOT I have just had done showed corrosion at the back of the car on the mountings for suspension springs and arms etc etc.
I took it to my local mechanic, to see if welding was needed, and he said no, because there are no holes existent. He was a little perplexed as to why it was all on the MOT advisories. However, when he looked under the car, he did say that whilst corrosion and rust is common on a 10 year old car, he was a little surprised to see it on a Mercedes for the underneath.
He said the only thing he could do was strip down the parts, underseal paint and put back, but in his opinion he said I shouldn't bother with that, and he thinks it wont even be on the advisories next time, and was just a garage looking for work by making those advisories.
Can anyone tell me their experiences, and what they think I should do?? Leave it, or strip it down??
Also, since having the car, I have noticed a knocking noise from front, when going over bumps etc, all the usual suspension bushes and arms look ok etc (and didnt come up on advisory for MOT), so wondering what else it could be? The anti roll bar looks fine too. My mechanic does say the drivers right hand anti roll bar pin is hitting part of the body, and he is sorting out for me, but the knocking noise is actually coming from passenger side or so it sounds, could the knocking on this side be a knock on effect of the anti roll bar pin hitting the body on driver's side?
sorry for long post, but I feel like I have purchased a dud!
Also, I am trying my luck with 30 Year corrosion warranty on some of the body work, nothing major right now, but can see bubbling appearing. Only thing is I dont have full service history, but 3 of the stamps are mercedes. In fact, how often should you service it?!
many thanks in advance for any replies!
