Hi all update. Got car to Mercedes in Eastbourne they put car on diagnostic machine and it reeled off three pages of errors pointing faults in all the electrical systems of the car. they said that can`t be right and cleared all the errors and got car running and retested and this time showed no faults at all except that the battery needed recharging and retesting. we had a look at the battery and it was a mercedes original but at least 6 years old. So after further discussion we decided to replace the battery. The car now has a new lease of life and things that didn`t work properly have now all sprung back to life, so looks very much like the battery wasn`t holding enough charge to work properly. i was there for a couple of hours and they had already been working on it for an hour and with the price of new battery they only charged for an hour of labour, delivered car back to my door, washed and valeted, all for £243 very good service.
