Hi all.
As the title says, I'm going to drill a hole in my roof so I can fit a decent amplified DAB antenna. Been struggling with an un-amplified magnetic one and reception is patchly.
My plan is/was to remove the rear dome light unit to gain access to the roof metal, however, on my CLS (I don't have a sunroof) when I removed the dome light all I found was a slab of what looked like plywood completely obscuring any roof metal.
Now, before I start boring a hole through the wood, is there anything I need to watch out for (like ribs or stiffeners) as I want to target a clear area of metal. I intend to drill through on the centreline either at the furthest forward or rearward part of the dome lamp aperture, firstly with a 4mm drill to create a pilot hole from the inside, then bore out to the full 14mm from the outside.
I also plan to route the DAB and +12v feed up behind a c-pillar trim then across to the dome lamp aperture. Is there an easier c-pillar to choose LH or RH, and is there any difficulty with routing the wiring. I'll use a thin steel rod to poke through from the c-pillar to the dome lamp hole which I can then tape the wires to it and pull them through.
Thanks in advance :)
