My 2001 Mercedes CL500 was laid up for about 6 months while I recovered from an injury. The battery drained but once recharged and after a few miles of driving, all the usual warning lights disappeared which is good but then a new problem developed which is not good.
When I start the car the wipers automatically wipe the screen once and then park themselves properly, or at least they should.
What happens now is that the wipers just keep on wiping, even when the wiper stalk is set to the off position. This means I have to driver everywhere with the wipers going at normal speed. What is funny/strange is that when I stop at the lights, engine running and everything normal, just resting on the foot brake to keep the car still, the wipers stop! when I pull away the wipers start again.
Occasionally the wipers will stop for a while after 10-15 minutes but not always and sometimes if they do stop, they will start again shortly afterwards. This happens regardless of whether the stalk switch is set to Off or Auto.
It is the fact that they stop when I stop the car that puzzles me.
Any ideas?
