I am new to these types of forums so keep with me please. I have had for the last 12 months a clk280 sport convertable coming from a Mazda mx5. I love the merc but recently the Engine Management Light has started to come on on the dash. I borrowed a friends error code reader and got error Po128 which I believe relates to the cooling system and from trawling the Internet it would appear to be a thermostat issue ie replacement. The coolant fluid has recently been changed and is at the correct level.
I have some queries that I would like a second option on before I change the thermostat. The ECU light was reset and only comes on when in the motorway. Driving round town never seems to trip it. Secondly the little hot air comes from the blower at best it's only hand hot. Engine temp never get too hot approx 75-80 on the guage.
Does this sound like its time for a new thermostat? Surely a thermostat should last more than 7 years and 70k miles!
