I have just returned to the Forum as my W210/E240 estate has been off the road for a spell. I booked it in for an MOT yesterday and after driving around to get it warm as well as get some petrol, is suddenty stopped. I got it off the road and tried to start it again. The key works find and the dash lights up but just about everything was lit up. ESP, BAS, engine management light etc. Left for a few minutes it would start again, then stop but still with all the dash lights on. I tried starting it again a few times but it ran for a few seconds then stopped. I repeated this until it wouldn't turn over for more than a few crank degrees and then refused to turn again until left again for a few minutes. Sometimes there would be an audible solenoid click and sometimes not.
I got the car low-loaded back to my driveway and started checking the posts here. I can't find anything resembling this anywhere in the Forum so I have to ask what is going on?
I fitted a new CPS some time back, the ECU cooling fan is disconnected and new plug leads and plugs fitted not long before is was parked-up on my driveway.
I recharged the completely flat battery some weeks ago and its holding a charge well. I also left the key in the ignition of the required 90 minutes.
I tried to start it again a few minutes ago and it started first time and settled down to a nice idle and with no dash lights on! I thought i had cracked it but after less than a minutes running, the ABS, BAS and management lights came on again and a few seconds after that the engine stopped again.
When the engine stops, the dash dials seem to lose power and drop back to their stops just before it stops.
PLEASE: Has anyone got any ideas how to get it going so I can at least get it down to get it on the diagnostic gear?
