W209 CLK 320 CDI Auto Box - Suggestions ?

Hi there,

My 2006 CLK 320 CDI has given me a few electrical niggles over the last year of ownership - now the latest one "might" be more severe and am asking for any thoughts or comments from you guys

Last week the auto box stuck in 4th and wouldn't change up or down - pulling over I managed somehow to get it into 3rd and then it stuck in that......switching the engine off seemed to resolve the problem.

I have noticed and don't think I am imagining it that when the engine (and weather) is cold that the gearbox seems to be reluctant to change up to the next gear as quickly as it does when warm - is this normal ?

I took the car to an independant in Coventry and they said that diagnostics had produced a static error -

signal y3 18 speed sensor

component defective

exchange control hydraulic unit faulty

The car has behaved since the incident and they have reset the error but warned me that the exchange control unit is producing the error and very expensive to replace.

My AA Warrenty on the car is due to expire in a few weeks and I suspect this part's not covered anyway - next dilemma is which warrenty firm to trust as I need peace of mind - the car has only done 69k miles.

Any advice appreciated on the gearbox issues and also reputable warrenty providors that are realistic value.

Thanks in advance.

Roland
