No srs light on dash

hi all

just had my 1999 E240 NCT'd ( MOT ) this morning all all the emissions + mechanical's passed with flying colours :D:D:D.

however it failed on no srs light coming on/off when key in position 2 and then running :(:(:(.

Most of the searches i carried out here seem to refer to the SRS light staying on and not permanently off as is my case.

Is there any way

1. to check the functionality of the SRS bulb apart from removing the console

2. check that the SRS is working as it should be apart from visiting an Indie or Dealer ?
