I've wondered about the automatic door locking feature which MB seems to like (not sure which other makes do, but I don't recall seeing this in anything other than MB) - does anyone know what the 'official' explanation is for this, and what the pros vs. cons are?
The only reason I can think of for this is security, by which I mean the crime prevention sort - eg. nobody can open up the rear door and grab your laptop bag when you stop at traffic lights, or jump in and hijack the car. But on the other hand, it must be a bit of a safety problem if you have an accident and are unable to get out yourself (although I gather the system unlocks the doors automatically after an impact - which of course assumes it hasn't been damaged by the same impact!).
To me this feature is mainly a minor inconvenience, but before I go and disable it I thought I'd ask for views...?
