starting problems A140

I recently started getting a few problems starting my A140 . When I turned the key there wasn't even a clicking noise . Ifound that it was easy to bump start but just occassionaly wouldn't turn over . There was no click as you used to get with the old sticky solenoids . I would just turn it on and the lights would be there but there was no telltale sound .I called the RAC out and the man told me it was a common fault with these cars and the starter motors in them . I found out that it was an awkward job to change it so I took the car to a garage and had it done there . Started straight away when I picked it up . However the next morning it wouldn't start but there was now a clicking sound at least . I lifted th bonnet to check if there was anything loose , well you never know . got back in the car with the bonnet up and it started . Over the next few weeks this has happened several times but instead of lifting the bonnet I only have to pop it on the release and it starts without having to raise the bonnet fully . I Have had a look underneath and can see no trapped wires or proximity switches that may cause this . Any ideas . Thanks lufcgreat
