Almost certain one of my shocks has failed, I found the receipt, bought from euro car parts 18 months ago.
So rather than risk another expensive failure next year I thought about replacing them with coil-overs. Not that I need any track use, but they are better made and I thought able to last. But amazingly these even cheap brands are obscenely expensive. I just cannot find a good brand (of the few that make them for my w203) that cost under £700 + any fitting costs.
Well bugger that, if MB's were any good I would plump for another direct replacement, but don't seem able to cope with road humps all that well either.
There is a brand I've used before on another vehicle, who make a direct replacement and reasonable prices. They are Monroe who make the gasmatic range.
What I would like to know is, as they also do a w203 'sports' version, what would the difference be? I would hope it might be ride height or stiffness. Or robustness, in which case I would get those. But it's possible there may be mechanical differences, ie size / bolt holes etc. I don't believe so but hoping someone will know for sure.
Thanks
