Is there a way to manually lower the roof on a 1999 230 SLK

Is there a way to manually lower the roof on a 1999 230 SLK. I am sure that I have read it somewhere. The reason is that the key fob will not open my wife's car even with new batteries and even though I have read it on Televisions (Malcolm's Postings) the key fits the boot but not the door. Or if you know of an easy way to open the door.
