So my partner's A-Class diesel has/had a lumpy idle which came and went and has come back. Above 1200-1300 rpm it seems to run fine. I have used injector cleaner and it made a very small difference.
The car pulls well and will do 90+ on the motorway.
So I took the car to a local Merc. indie who stuck the Star diag. box on it.
The guy kept saying that it was probably an injector then pointed at the REAR of the engine to tell me they were a nightmare to get out!
He printed off the fault code (P0105 - Pressure Sensor).
Cleared all errors (airbags, ESP, central Locking etc. all showed (historic) fails on the test).
He ran the engine for a few more minutes then re-scanned and the car came up fault free.
He then stated again that it was a bad injector and a big job.
So the guy in charge of service costed the job as £125+VAT per injector to overhaul + 5 hours (£350+VAT).
So worst case is £1,000, "best" case is £550. Seems a bit steep for a pressure sensor fault.
I read somewhere about the sensor on the bulkhead causing power loss and I replaced the tube from the manifold with a length of silicon tube a few months ago. When I remove the vac. pipe there is no change in engine note so I am wondering if there is an issue with this? If there was, what symptoms might I see?
We gave a reasonable price for the car and have had to do a ton of stuff to it. Another £1k would break the camel's back!
Any help gratefully accepted.
