Hi - my first post for years!! and guys this seems to be a common one...
I have a W203, and do a fair few miles a year of late Im now getting the infamous ignition problem. I have a very good indy near me in Walton on Thames (TM Motors) they've put all the keys (I have two standard and the thin one) through their star machine while I've been with them, both open and lock the car, all have new batteries and ir beams that have been checked. However my spares arent being recognised by the EIS - ie only my day-to-day one will turn and start the car. What is more concerning is that Im now getting intermittent EIS issues with my day-to-day key.. It fires the car up fine first thing, but after that, I have to take anything from 2 - 8 attempts to get the key to be accepted by the EIS to allow me to turn it and fire it up. I have found that whilst in the car, sometimes locking and unlocking the car seems to work. My indy says they have to defer these issues to the main d(st)ealer, and MB World Brooklands - my closest- want to charge me £168 AN HOUR just to investigate!! Before I waste a fortune, does anyone have any ideas on this one.. Malcolm I wonder if this might be something you have experience of? Something for my next trip down to the South West! Any help greatfully received! Could do with avoiding forking out 1/2 a G on a new EIS when I want to trade it up for a newer model in the next couple of months
Cheers All
