help please. whats this?

first of all, hello everyone, im a newbie and this is my first post.
my name is richard from chelmsford in essex.
ive got a mercedes shell that im trying to i.d. ive got a rough idea of what it is but need an all knowing eye cast upon it to accurately identify it.
so could any knowledgable enthusiast please enlighten me?
