I have read your excellent posting on this subject and have one slight query?
Should I remove the motor completely, would the following wiring diagram be correct?
According to your description, there should be three wires and I am assuming that I have labelled them correctly.
I would simply join the signal wire to the supply (12v) wire by soldering in the 4.7k resistor.
Ground the remaining wire (earth) and all should be OK.
