Merc e290cdi w210 difficulty starting

$

Its an intermittent problem.
It may take approx 10 seconds of cranking of the starter motor before it fires up.
Its more of a problem with a cold engine, but intermittent and I am worried the battery will run down.
Once started idles and runs fine but seems lacking in power especially climbing long gradients. No untowards noises or smoke!!
The car has 320000km and 18 years old now.
Could this be the glow plus failing?
Any advice is welcome.
Thanks.

Front Parking Sensors

ont Parking Sensors

Hi

We have a 2008 E220, it was bought in 2013 but the front parking sensors never worked, they seem aftermarket and have a CANM8-MERCPARK installed.

We have managed to replace the front sensors and unit with another unit but these stay on all the time. the display has a silent switch so the buzzing can be switched off.

The old unit had 3 power wires in the plug of the unit, Red, Black and White. The new unit has just two Red and Black.

The feed runs from a CANM8-MERCPARK which does flash when the car is on and still does

we just connected the red and black to the new unit

the specs of the CANM8-PARK are as follows

"CANM8-MERCPARK

The CANM8-MERCPARK interface incorporates a unique Speed Dependent Output, specifically for the control of Front Parking Sensors from the vehicle CAN Bus. A 12v controlled output is generated by the interface as soon as speed is detected and switched off while the vehicle speed is above approximately 6 MPH.
Additionally, a timed 12v output is provided when Drive gear is selected. The output is automatically deactivated when Park gear is selected.
If a continuous 12v control signal is required, a seperate output provides a signal while the vehicle is at standstill, terminating at speeds above 6 MPH.

We did connect one sensor to the old Unit and it did buzz but we didnt get a chance to drive the car while the old unit and new sensors were connected

Does anyone know if that white power wire could be the wire that controls the unit and the swtich off when the car speed is over 6mph, it does run from the CANM8-MERCPARK.

Any help would be appriciated

Thanks in advance

regards

LED CAN-bus lights

There only seems to be one thread about this, from 2011, so I will raise the issue again.

Trying to fit LED sidelights to my R129 SL500, and I have bought a couple of different types. They all claim to be CAN-bus error free. They all work fine, with no flicker, except the warning light on the dash still lights. Does this mean there is still not enough voltage drop across the bulbs?

Does anyone know what value resistor to add to achieve this, and what wattage it needs to carry? And do you put it in series with the 'bulb' or in parallel? (I imagine series, but I could be wrong!)

Many thanks for any help or suggestions.

As one problem gets solved another raises its ugly head! I now have issues with my standard factory radio I am occasionaly getting no sound from the unit, not from radio, CD or tape. I park the car up overnight its working, get in to either go to or come home from work & its dead leave the car again and its working wtf!

Do these (02 W211 ) have a separate amp which could be faulty or is it in the head unit? has anyone had issues like this or is it unique to me? Does my car not like me?

hi all I have a 2007 E280 that i have owned since April.I got it from a merc main dealer in Glasgow. During the test drive i pointed out to the salesman that the parking brake was not releasing on the first pull of the handle, he assured me this would be fixed before i picked it up.To cut a long story short the car has been back to the dealer 12 times and each time they tell me the cant find any faults, despite taking between 6 and 14 attempts every morning.Has anyone had any problems like this or can recommend anything i can tell the dealer to check. Thanks Paul

ML 270 Cdi Parktronic not working

I have recently purchased a 2002 ml 270 Cdi, apparently a very rare genuine factory built brabus edition. The car has been stored and unused for the last three years and I have spent the last month recommissioning it. Have got most things running/ working now except for the Parktronic system.
When starting car the front and rear displays show two red LEDs and a beep can be heard before the system turns itself off.i understand that one faulty sensor can shut down the whole Parktronic system. I have a icar soft diagnostic tool which tells me that all 6 front sensors are either faulty , bad connection or broken wire. My question is how likely is it that all 6 front sensors can be faulty at the same time. Don't really want to take it to dealer to connect to STAR only for them to tell me what my own tool is telling me. Anyone got any advice where to go next apart from changing all 6 front sensors.

Hi all, the heater fan has stopped working on my 1999 clk430. I see there's been a few posts before but I couldn't find the answer I was looking for. I've tested the motor and that works ok just from a battery supply but when I check the regulator on which three wires go in but only two come out I have a live but No earth. Is this right or is the earth dependant on the signal from the third wire going into the relay. Thanks for any help you can give me. Jen

Water in boot/trunk

$

Hi all,

I'll be honest, I only use these forums to find information, except in this case I just cant find any solid information regarding my issue anywhere.

So I've got a soaking wet boot, multiple leaks in various areas.

#1 was a the rear left tail light- this has now been fixed by changing the seal (which didn't actually solve it until I used silicone too)

#2 is water coming into the actual lid of the the boot, this seems to have stopped- I cleaned out the drains etc and it seems to have stopped.

#3 this is the one I'm stuck on, so after fixing the first two my boot was still soaking, I noticed today that water was dripping out of the below (and depending on which way the car is leaning, water will drip out of either side.- I'm not really sure what it is or how water is getting in there- any ideas would be much appreciated.

Please see the image below

The car is a w211 e320 cdi 2004 model.

I have a clk 200 1.8 2004. Recently had an oil leak. Garage told me it was coming from the gear box sump. the gear box sump was gasket was replaced. it turns out that something else was leaking. anyway, since the gasket was changed, the car has never been the same. it seems to be holding back.
Also, it seem to have correct amount of oil in gear box, however, I dont think the correct old was used in the first place. some was drained. I was told not all of oild can be drained, but was toped up with the correct oil. Its an automatic

Please can someone help me

Buying Dilemma - New or Classic

$

Hello. Forum newby here, looking to join the ranks of MB owners in the near future. I see 2 possible ways of going about it and cannot decide which is the better route. Maybe existing owners of the marque can help?

In short my dilemma is whether to (a) replace my year old Audi S3 with a Mercedes C450AMG when they come to the UK next year or (b) keep the S3 and buy a 60k miles W129 SL320 (post '99 facelift probably) with pan roof as a 3rd car for fine weather use (car 2 is a Honda CRV).

Option (a) gives me the fast, new (well reliable really and under warranty), 4WD, quality car that I need on an everyday lifestyle basis but, literally, at the expense of heavy depreciation. Trouble is I hanker after a convertible grand tourer for fine days and in which to explore continental Europe.

Option (b), I think, if purchased wisely gives me the convertible GT and postpones the depreciation issue, but leaves me vulnerable to heavier repair bills all round.

Any thoughts or opinions, anyone?

C180 Engine Chugg on startup

$

Hope someone may be able to help me with this!

I've recently bought my first Mercedes, a 2004 C180 K petrol auto.
65,000 miles... FSH
Has just come out of a specialist garage (supposedly) where it had a ballpoint, suspension arm, camshaft carrier oil leak and gear box multiplug leak repaired.

I noticed immediately that on startup, that the engine was chugging aggressively whilst idle and in ALL auto gears PRND, so much so that it was almost shaking me inside. I initially put it down to being a cold, rainy British morning and the car being sat for nearly 24 hours in that weather, waiting for me to collect it. I fully opened it up down the long stretch of road by the garage, it felt like it was going to stall as I pulled away but once it got going it was fine, so I proceeded to drive it home where I had no issues, no choking, chugging, misfiring of anything.

An hour later I go out to my drive to move the car, it starts fine but I notice when walking back there is a suspicious looking fluid right underneath where the car was sat, that has started trickling down the drive.... The only thing that makes me question if its oil or not, is that it didn't have that weird 'rainbow'/'pearlescent' look to it and seemed clear when I rubbed my fingers through the puddle but it was noticeably NOT rain water, it stood out against the already wet floor. I can't smell any burning or anything so again, quite confused.

I've just gone out to start it up again, lo and behold its started aggressively chugging again, I reversed it back and sure enough there is signs of this mysterious looking fluid on the floor... No where near as much as last time but enough for me to notice.

I'm no petrol head, but was wondering if any of you maybe able to shed some light on this or confirm if you too have had this issue?

Many Thanks,
Jack

w210 om606 5g-tronic unsure if working properly...

Hi all. First post here in a long time....

Just bought a w210 e300 om606 as per the thread title. It was cheap, and i'm expecting it to have faults.

First obvious thing is that it doesn't appear to lock it's tourque converter at any time. Drives ok, and seems to go well, but even in top gear on the motorway there is still 400-500 rpm difference between full power and no power. Is this normal? I would have expected lock-up at some point!

Couple of other wiring issues, but I'll deal with them later....

Thankis in advance for any assistance!

David.

CL leaking window/roof

$

A good source of knowledge and advice, I'm hoping you fellow forum members might be able to help me out again.

When I bought my CL 12 months ago, there was a green mark on the suede roof lining. This is driver side over the right shoulder of the rear passenger seat, where the roof slopes down towards the rear window. Anyway I cleaned it and thought nothing more of it.

Long story short, with the heavy rain we've had of late, when I've got into he car of a morning I've noticed a not too pleasant smell in the car, which I've now traced to be coming from the area mentioned above, which is soaked with water, clearly coming from a leak either from the roof or the window. Obviously as water can't flow upwards I don't believe the water ingress can come the rear passenger side window, instead is either from a broken seal of gasket at the rear windscreen, or could it be from the sort of groove in the roof that runs along the length of the roof.

Has anyone experienced this before? What was the issue? How was it resolved? Does anyone know if it's easy to take the lining off this part of the car to investigate? I'm concerned if this continues the water could get into electrics causing all manner of problems, and of course be causing rust wherever the water finds itself through gravity.

As ever your help is appreciated.
